The Stephen Alva Trio consists of Stephen Alva (guitar), Jax Cunningham (drums), and Kelly Hunter (bass)—all past and current members of the Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts Program. Each member has an extensive performing background, regularly gigging throughout Orange County as well as earning recent nominations for OC Artist of the Year. Although the trio is typically known for their bold, electric three-piece arrangements of complex songs by bands such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and Chicago, this special performance will take a different approach—stripped-down, acoustic renditions of classic rock favorites.

Stephen Alva Trio Stephen Alva is a dedicated and multi-talented musician with over a decade of experience spanning performance, recording, mixing, and video production. Known for his precision, professionalism, and quiet leadership, Stephen brings a mature and detail-oriented approach to every project he takes on. A graduate of Huntington Beach High School and the prestigious Academy for the Performing Arts’ Music, Media, Entertainment, and Technology (MMET) Program, Stephen honed his craft through a series of high-profile performance opportunities, including the HB Mayor’s Gala, NAMM 2023, and the 77th Midwest Clinic in Chicago. His contributions extended far beyond the stage—he was appointed Student Director and Producer, roles that reflect his ability to lead with humility, support his peers, and maintain an unwavering commitment to excellence. In 2023, Stephen was honored with a nomination for OC Artist of the Year, recognized by MMET Vocal Director Nicole Kubis for his musical versatility, reliability, and mentorship. As she noted, “‘Ask Stephen’ became a mantra in our department—his mastery of the material and ability to assist others made him an invaluable part of our program.” Whether behind the mic or behind the scenes, Stephen continues to build a career rooted in adaptability, integrity, and a deep passion for the art of music.
